A man was shot and killed by police in downtown Austin late Saturday night after trying to enter a bar with a gun.
At a press conference on Sunday morning, Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said police were called about the incident around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived a bar employee pointed out the armed man, who had illegally entered the bar with a firearm.
Police then approached the suspect, who pulled out his firearm and pointed it in the direction of the officers and bar patrons, Henderson said. Three police officers then fired at the suspect.
Multiple attacks:Suspect killed 6, including his parents, in separate Texas attacks, authorities say
The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead.
According to Interim Chief Henderson, three people were taken to the hospital with injuries. One sustained critical injuries, and the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The officers involved in the shooting have 9, 11 and 13 years of service with the police department and will be placed on administrative duty, per department protocol.
